General Thomas P Stafford Air and Space Museum

Weatherford, OK

Interior Design, Civic, Commercial

Named in honor of Lt. General Thomas P. Stafford, the Stafford Air and Space Museum in Weatherford, Oklahoma boasts an elite aeronautical craft and artifact collection. Having completed a 6,000-square-foot addition for the museum in 2004, MA+ is proud to have, once again, been selected to provide design services to the museum.

Since the spring of 2019, our firm has been re-imagining more than 36,000 square feet of the museum's interior exhibit, office, and event spaces while the museum undergoes a major expansion. Significant highlights of this expansion include renovations to the existing lobby, existing conference room, to be re-named "The Explorer's Room", administration offices, multiple exhibit spaces, and a conversion of the 1,500-square-foot courtyard space to a gift shop.

The interior expansion will include interior and graphic design of three new exhibit spaces currently under construction:

The Apollo High-Bay Gallery, which will feature a full-scale Apollo Command and Service Module (CSM) and Lunar Excursion Module (LEM), and hundreds of other artifacts from NASA’s Apollo Program.

The Space Shuttle Gallery, which will feature artifacts from the Space Shuttle program, scale models of the Space Shuttle, International Space Station, Hubble Space Telescope, and an authentic retired NASA Space Shuttle simulator cockpit. Located next to the Space Shuttle Gallery will be The Hubble Gallery featuring dozens of floor to ceiling digital screens, rotating through hundreds of images captured by the Hubble Space Telescope over the past several decades.

The Stealth Gallery, a 5,000-square-foot expansion of the Modern Aviation Gallery, will spotlight an F-117 “Nighthawk” Stealth Fighter, one of only a few on display in the world.
