Horizon Intermediate School

Mustang, OK

Education

MA+ Architecture was hired to convert the 1972 9th Grade Center into a 21st century learning center for grades 5 and 6. Additionally the facility was to be brought up to the high standards set for the district's new buildings with security and supervision being a major concern. A new classroom wing brought the number of classrooms to 41.

A new entrance and administration addition gave the facility a new identity and provided a controlled secure entry with bus and car traffic being separated for added safety. The new media center and remodeled commons are at the heart of the building with classroom wings radiating out.

The project includes 41 general classrooms, three flex rooms, a music room, an art room, a media center, an administration area, two gymnasiums with seating for 500 and a cafeteria with a stage.
