Southwestern Oklahoma State University Black Kettle Hall Residential Hall Renovation
Weatherford, OK
Education, Furniture Selection
When Black Kettle Hall, formerly Parker Hall, was considered for renovation, it had been vacant for nearly a decade. MA+ Architecture worked closely with SWOSU through many challenges and unexpected structural repairs to redesign the dormitory and create a modern residential hall, providing areas for enhanced student life on campus. In close cooperation with the Director of Housing and Director of the Physical Plant, a plan was created that offered residential suites where four students could share restroom facilities within each suite. The building also includes six larger residential advisor rooms, six student lounges, a movie room, game room, conference room, study lounge, RA office, and kitchenette. The main entry lobby on the first floor serves as a large lounge and features a dedication wall honoring the Cheyenne-Arapaho tribes that inspired the revitalization of Black Kettle Hall.
